Update on the response to Cyclone IDAI in central Mozambique

In the immediate aftermath of Cyclone IDAI, Mozambique’s government and its disaster-response agencies assessed the scale of damage done and made plans to alleviate the suffering of the people. The Church got going faster than most, with an organized and practical response.

Seán O’Leary C.S.Sp. in Taiwan meets visiting Irish parliamentarians.

In June 2019 a group of Irish senators on a visit to Taiwan met with Fr. Seán O’Leary C.S.Sp. Fr. O’Leary, from Cork, was first appointed to the east Asian island during the late 1990s. Now Provincial with responsibility for Taiwan, Vietnam and India, he has also been a member of the leadership team of the Spiritans in Ireland and served in a west Dublin parish.

Emergency assistance for cyclone-affected area of Mozambique Connie O’Halloran, Overseas Development Officer May 2019

In Spiritan Newsflash N° 207 (March 2019), under a heading of “Idai victims need help urgently”, the Generalate in Rome appealed for a generous response to Cyclone Idai which had just devastated parts of Mozambique (as well as parts of neighbouring countries). Cyclone Kenneth, which was to follow only a few weeks later, also caused much devastation to areas (further north) in Mozambique.
