MBSR 8-Week Course

24th January 2017

What is the MBSR Course?

This course is based on the model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Medical Centre of the University of Massachusetts. The course is outlined in his book ‘Full Catastrophe Living’, which is widely available in bookshops and libraries.

What does the MBSR Course involve?

  • First session of 3 hours; subsequent 7 sessions of 2 hours and 30 minutes class once a week for 8 weeks.
  • One all-day session typically between Weeks 5 & 6.
  • Mindfulness Meditation for up to 60 minutes a day using an instructional CD for the duration of the 8-week course.

Who is the MBSR Course for?

The course is for people who wish to try out mindfulness as a way to regain balance in life. It is not recommended as a stand-alone treatment for people who are presently suffering from depression or a psychiatric condition, who cannot attend all sessions, or who do not have time for daily practice over the 8 weeks. The course presenter will speak with all participants in advance of the course to seek to ensure the course is coming at the right time for them.
