A Reflection for the Feast of the Holy Family

Lk 2: 22 – 40 ( )

The Feast of the Holy Family takes me back immediately to my own childhood during the war years. Life was tough and challenging then but, looking back now, I know that it was a very happy time also.

Family was a great learning time too: how to live, love and pray together. We were supported in overcoming disappointments and in learning to deal with our emotions. When we married and had our children, we tried to install and encourage them to live by the same values. It lifts my spirits when I witness the kindness and love which they show to our grandchildren today.

We were introduced to daily Mass, and the love of Mass and the sacraments has continued to nourish and enrich my faith-life.

I thank God for Family and I pray for families every day.
